Last week, we celebrated a decade of fostering at Lighthouse Fostering – ten years of opening hearts and homes, transforming lives, and building a community rooted in care and commitment.
The celebration was a joyful gathering under sunny skies, bringing together the incredible people who make our fostering family so special. We reflected on the remarkable achievements of the past decade while looking ahead to a bright future.
A Community United in Purpose
The atmosphere was magical as foster carers, children in care, birth children, and our support team came together. Everywhere we looked, there was warmth and connection – families sharing stories, children playing together, and a strong sense of belonging that defines our Lighthouse community.
This milestone wasn’t just about marking time; it was about recognising the meaningful impact our collective efforts have had on children’s lives. Every laugh, story, and hug reminded us of why we do what we do.
Delicious Food, Delightful Company
The BBQ feast was a highlight, bringing people together over sizzling burgers, sausages, and refreshing mocktails that kept everyone cool in the summer heat. But the ice cream cart stole the show, putting smiles on faces young and old. Watching children experience these small but special moments reminded us how important it is to create positive, carefree experiences for them.
Recognising Extraordinary Dedication
A key part of the day was recognising the remarkable commitment of our foster carers. Wendy and David, who have fostered with Lighthouse for ten years, exemplify the spirit of our community. Their journey has brought stability and love to many children, helping them grow into confident, hopeful young people. Their adaptability and dedication reflect the professionalism that defines fostering today.
A Decade of Transformation
Over the past ten years, Lighthouse Fostering has grown from a vision to a community making a real difference. We’ve supported hundreds of children, kept siblings together, provided stability for teenagers, and helped young children build healthy foundations. The success isn’t just in numbers – it’s in the stories of transformation, from children learning to trust again to young people rediscovering their love of learning.
Building Strong Foundations
Strong foundations have been key to our success. From comprehensive training for foster carers to responsive support systems, we’ve built a network that ensures no carer feels isolated. Our focus on understanding trauma has shaped every aspect of our practice, improving outcomes for the children we support.
Fun, Games, and Fond Memories
An interactive quiz sparked laughter, nostalgia, and friendly competition as everyone celebrated our history and achievements. Children who started the day shy were laughing and cheering by the end, while carers formed new friendships that will last beyond the event.
The Ripple Effect of Care
Our impact extends far beyond the children we support. Former foster children have returned to visit, bringing their own children to meet the carers who changed their lives. Some have gone on to university, started careers, or even become foster carers themselves, showing the far-reaching effects of a loving, stable home.
Looking Ahead
While we celebrated the past, we’re excited for the future. With the lessons we’ve learned, the relationships we’ve built, and our commitment to therapeutic fostering, we’re ready to support even more children and carers in the years to come.
Gratitude Beyond Words
To our foster carers, children, and support team – thank you. Your dedication, resilience, and generosity make our work possible. You are the heart of Lighthouse Fostering.
A Legacy of Love
Ten years of Lighthouse Fostering represents thousands of safe nights, countless moments of joy, and unshakable hope. As we move forward, we remain committed to our mission: creating safe, nurturing homes where children can heal, grow, and thrive.
Here’s to the next decade of fostering with care, love, and purpose. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey.
